Athens-Clarke County Elections Supervisor Charlotte Sosebee says a handful of homes on Athens’ west side were incorrectly assigned as District 2, when voters should have been casting ballots in District 5. Sosebee says the voters—13 of them—will receive new ballots. She says six were absentee ballots of which two have been received for tabulation. Seven are ballots that were cast in person and cannot be changed.
From A-CC Elections Supervisor Charlotte Sosebee…
Hello ACC Board of Elections,
I spoke with a voter around 11am today via phone and in person. The voter expressed that their absentee ballot did not include Commission District 5 and the VR system shows the voter in Commission District 2.
I did research and found the voter’s address should be assigned to Commission District 5. We erroneously assigned Hunnicutt Drive to Commission District 2.
I have identified 13 ballots that have been issued already to the incorrect district combo that includes Commission District 2; six were absentee ballots of which two have been received for tabulation. Seven are ballots that were cast in person.
As of noon today, we have made the changes to the voter registration system to show that the voters assigned to Hunnicutt Drive are in Commission District 5 rather than District 2.
Any elector who is registered at Hunnicutt Drive will receive the correct ballot.
This matter is different than the previous issue with 8B precinct where the ballot did not exist and was an error in ballot proofing.
This matter is actually a redistricting error made by our Elections Team, but is now corrected.
RECAP: As I mentioned previously, our goal for redistricting was 100% accuracy. This particular street is one was identified as entered incorrectly, but is now corrected in the voter registration system.
