An elderly metro Atlanta woman has died after she accidentally set her house on fire.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said there were called to the home on Orchard Way in Buford at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
Neighbors who called 911 said they could see smoke coming from the house.
When firefighters arrived, they found 84-year-old Barbara Ann Maddox’s body near the front door.
Investigators believe Maddox was filling a lamp with oil when she accidentally set the fire.
Her body has been sent off for an autopsy.
The investigation into the fire and Maddox’s death is ongoing.
