Doctors encourage vaccinations as Flu activity increases in metro Atlanta

The CDC is updating their COVID-19 and Flu vaccine recommendations for the virus season this fall

ATLANTA — Flu activity has increased in the metro Atlanta area ahead of the holiday season.

According to Dr. Cherie Drenzek with the Georgia Department of Public Health, most of the flu that has been circulating are Influenza A.

“For the last two weeks, the activity that we have seen has been moderate,” Dr. Drenzek said. “There has really been a 50-50 combination of the two type of A of viruses. One is called H3NQ, the other is called H1N1.”

She said it seems to be a shift from children who have the flu, to young adults and middle aged adults.

Dr. Drenzek encourages everyone six months and older to get vaccinated.
