District Attorney Deborah Gonzalez was heckled and applauded during a Wednesday evening forum: the DA whose Western Judicial Circuit includes Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties spoke before a packed auditorium at the Library on Baxter Street in Athens. Gonzalez spoke out against a legislative measure pushed by Athens state Rep Houston Gaines: Republican Gaines has a bill that would create an oversight commission for District Attorneys around the state.

Deborah Gonzalez gave a power point presentation on goals, objectives and discussed crime statistics until 6:45 p.m.
Began responding to submitted questions around 6:50 p.m.
Closed at 7:30 p.m. with the resignation question. Didn’t respond to the majority of questions submitted because she said they focused on a specific case.
Based on applause, 60% or slightly more were Gonzalez supporters.
The remainder wanted her on the next train out of Athens.
A handful of the anti-Gonzalez crowd heckled her with criticism or yelled out questions that went unanswered during the Q&A.
