Beverly Logan, Clerk of Court for the superior and state courts in Athens, says she is retiring, stepping down after thirty years. Logan made the announcement in a letter to Governor Brian Kemp and another to the citizens of Athens-Clarke County.

From Beverly Logan…

To the Citizens of Clarke County, the Mayor and Commission of Athens-Clarke County, the Judges of Superior and State Court, the staff of the Clerk of Courts, the men and women of the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, family and friends, I want to thank you for the support you have given me as your Clerk of Superior/State Court for the last thirty years.  It has been an honor serving as your Clerk of Courts and representing you in this Great State as a Constitutional Officer.  But the winds of change are blowing and I have written Governor Kemp to announce my retirement and resignation as your Clerk.  I leave the Clerk’s Office in great hands with a  fantastic staff working diligently to serve you, as they protect and preserve our records, meet the daily demands of our courts, and grow and change as the need and laws demand.  Clarke County citizens are blessed with great leaders in our county management and in our judicial system.  Our local Judges are the finest in the State and it has been a pleasure working beside them.  I appreciate all the men and women who work in our county government offices and departments. Their dedication to service is bar none.  It has been a pleasure working with them to make our county a safe and wonderful place to live.

Thank you for allowing me to be the custodian of our history and in turn become a part of that history.  As of 1801, the year Clarke County was chartered, to present, there have been fifteen hardworking, dedicated individuals serving as Clerks of Superior Court.  I have the honor of being number 15.  In the past 120 years, there have been only four Clerks of Superior Court.   It has been a privilege to be the third longest serving Clerk in Clarke County history behind Mr. Elmer J. Crawford, 1903-1958, and Mr. Calvin C. Johnson, 1837-1872.

I love Clarke County.  I promise to continue serving you and this great State in other endeavors.  Retirement is just another mission field to serve you and our God.  Thank you Clarke County for allowing me to be your public servant.  May God bless you,

Your friend,

Beverly Logan
