A car slams into the Chick-fil-A on Alps Road in Beechwood. It happened around 3:45 this morning, before the popular restaurant was open. Athens-Clarke County Police say the apparently stolen car was occupied by two juveniles, neither of whom was injured.

The juveniles are in custody. The restaurant suffered extensive damage to glass, tables, and booths.

UPDATE: According to Chick-fil-A owner Shane Todd, the drive through will be opening at 11:00 am, with hopes the dining room can be repaired and re-opened within the next several days.

UPDATE: Press release from the Athens Clarke County Police:

At approximately 4:00 am on May 28th , our officer encountered a vehicle driving erratically on Broad Street near downtown Athens. Our Communications Unit advised our officer that the vehicle had earlier been reported stolen.

Our officer, using blue lights and siren, attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. However, the vehicle continued to elude our officer, turning southbound on Newton Street and then westbound on Baxter Street. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Alps Road and Baxter Street, it avoided stop sticks which had been deployed by another officer. The driver of the vehicle lost control, continuing through the Chick-Fil-A parking lot before coming to rest inside the restaurant. The restaurant is located at 196 Alps Road.

Additional officers arrived and detained two juveniles, a male and female. It is believed that the female was the driver of the vehicle and the male was the passenger. Both refused treatment and appeared uninjured. The female was transported to the Northeast Georgia Youth Detention facility and the male was released to his parent. The female faces multiple charges.

No restaurant employees were injured in the incident.
