Body of man found in north Ga is identified

Remains found in Gilmer County have been identified as a 50-year-old Georgia man who was reported missing in June 2021.

The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office identified the remains as 50-year-old Terry Cantrell.

Cantrell was initially listed as a missing person back in June 2021 after he was last seen walking from Clay Top Drive near Hudson Martin Road and Highway 52 East in Gilmer County.

Deputies said they will begin to determine the circumstances around Cantrell’s death following an autopsy.

Cantrell’s friends told deputies that he was known to visit campsites and fishing holes in the Rackley Road area.

Following Cantrell’s disappearance, Gilmer County Search and Rescue teams and Gilmer deputies searched wooded areas around Postell Lake.
