It’ll be a busy day and evening for Athens-Clarke County Commissioners: they will meet in a closed-door session at 5 o’clock this afternoon, then hold their August voting session at 6 o’clock. In the evening meeting at City Hall, the Commission is expected to adopt an amendment to the Athens-Clarke County smoking ordinance, one that will ban vaping in most indoor facilities in Athens. Commissioners will also vote to award a contract for work at Bishop Park and the could take action on a site for an east Athens library.
Oconee County Commissioners are set to meet this evening: their 6 o’clock session will the first in the new Oconee County Administration Building, the new facility on Macon Highway in Watkinsville that opened just last week.
The Oconee County School Board met last night in Watkinsville, giving unanimous approval to a new School District millage rate, one that will raise the District’s portion of the Oconee County property tax rate by more than nine percent.
