Athens-Clarke County Police hold first of several community cookouts

Residents of the Athens community got a chance to hang out and eat with local law enforcement in the first of a series of cookouts.

From the ACCPD:

Last night, officers with the ACCPD hosted the first of several community cookouts in the Columbia Brookside neighborhood. These cookouts are part of our community-oriented policing philosophy of maintaining open dialogue with the community we serve. Chief R. Scott Freeman implemented these cookouts as a way to get interaction between officers and community. “On many occasions the only interaction the community may have with an officer is in a law enforcement capacity. These cookouts are designed to help break the ice and get conversations started, and allows members of the community to meet and get to know the officers who serve their community.” We would like to thank other ACC agencies that participated in the event as well as our officers and volunteers for making this cookout a great success.
