Area briefs: voter registration deadline looms, UGA marks midterm day

There’s a reminder that today and tomorrow are the last days to register to vote in elections that will be decided in November: there’s a special election for Clerk of Court in Athens-Clarke County and there are municipal elections in Winterville. Election Day is November 7; early voting begins one week from today.

Today is a midterm day at UGA: this is midterm for the ongoing fall semester classes at the University of Georgia.

Athens parents are meeting with teachers this week: parent-teachers conferences begin today in the schools in the Clarke County School District.

Students and teachers are out of class today in Oconee County, off for fall break: the schools in and around Watkinsville reopen tomorrow.

The Georgia DOT has awarded a $3.3 million contract for construction of another traffic circle, a roundabout planned for Winder Highway and Galilee Church Road in Jackson County.

There are plans for a bio-energy facility in Hall County: the plant that would make renewable natural gas could go up along I-985 in Gainesville.
