The Board of the University of Georgia’s Research Foundation meets today in Athens: the afternoon session is taking place at the Georgia Center.

As UGA’s Honors Week continues, the annual Research Awards Banquet is set for 5:30 this afternoon at the University of Georgia’s Georgia Center.

A new Athens-based AI startup has launched with more than $4 million in seed funding. Lockchain is a risk management platform for Luxembourg-based Blockchain, a digital ledger of cryptocurrency transactions. Lockchain says it raised the money during a downturn in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Lockchain will help crypto traders monitor assets.

Georgia Congressman Mike Collins, the 10th District Republican who represents Athens in the US House, will be in Madison today, posthumously presenting the Carnegie Medal to the family of Thomas Hawk. Hawk was killed in December of 2022, trying to rescue his 13 year-old son from a burning home in Bostwick. The ceremony is set for 3:30 this afternoon at the Morgan County Public Safety Complex in Madison.

Elbert County Commissioners meet for an afternoon work session, 5 o’clock at the Government Complex in Elberton.

There’s a new County Manager in Carnesville: interim Manager Terry Harris is getting the full-time job, promoted at this week’s meeting of the Franklin County Commission. Harris had been interim manager since the resignation last August of former Franklin County Manager Derrick Turner.

There are road rage charges for a man from Atlanta, arrested after an alleged case of road rage on I-85 in Franklin County. The Sheriff’s Office in Carnesville says suspect Jerry Hopkins fired gunshots at the driver of another truck. Charges for Hopkins include aggravated assault and reckless conduct. He’s being held without bond in the Franklin County jail.

A Gainesville man is in the Hall County jail, facing child molestation allegations: 37 year-old Christopher Lewis’s charges stem from his alleged involvement with a 13 year-old. He’s being held without bond in the Hall County jail.
