Area briefs: TAD talk in Athens, school expansion in Jefferson

The advisory committee that is looking at plans for a tax allocation district for Athens’ Lexington Road corridor meets today, 5:30 this afternoon at the County Solid Waste offices on Hancock Industrial Way.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Board of Assessors, a 4 o’clock session at Athens City Hall.

The School Board in Jefferson has signed off on plans for a $32 million expansion of Jefferson Middle School.

A teenager from Mexico is the second person arrested and charged in connection with a fatal car crash in Oakwood. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says 19 year-old Rodolfo Sifuentes is facing counts that include vehicular homicide. Investigators say he was involved in a street race that ended with the crash that claimed the life of Feliciano Rios of Gainesville. Alejandro Reyes was arrested and charged shortly after the April accident in Oakwood.

The University of North Georgia says seven UNG students have been named finalists for Fulbright Scholarships.

A teenager in Alto is arrested on child exploitation charges. The GBI says 17 year-old Paten Carter was booked into the Habersham County jail.
