Area briefs: shooting, rabies alert in Gainesville, sewage spill in Lake Lanier tributary

A woman is injured in a weekend shooting in Hall County. The 27 year-old woman who was shot was hospitalized. Police say the shooting happened at a house party in Gainesville. There was no immediate word on a suspect in the case.

There is another rabies alert for Hall County, a rabid fox in a neighborhood in Gainesville.

The state Environmental Protection Division is monitoring a sewage spill in Hall County: more than six thousand gallons of raw sewage flowed into a creek in Gainesville, a tributary that feeds into Lake Lanier.

Forecasters say north Georgia could see more smoke from those Canadian wildfires today, making matters worse amid high humidity and temperatures in the mid 90s.
