Area briefs: protestors outside Mayor’s home, robbery arrest for campus cops

Demonstrators calling for Athens-Clarke County Commissioners to adopt a resolution calling for a cease fire in Gaza staged a weekend rally outside the home of Athens Mayor Kelly Girtz.

University of Georgia campus police report the arrest of an armed robbery suspect, a man with a gun taken into custody after a foot chase on Church Street, near UGA’s Boggs Hall.

There are no classes in Oconee County Schools today: Oconee County students and teachers are out for winter break. Students return to school tomorrow. The Oconee County Planning Commission meets this evening, 7 o’clock at the Administrative Building on Macon Highway.

Elbert County Commissioners are set to meet this afternoon: it’s a 5:30 session at Commission officers in Elberton.

The City Council in Royston has signed off on the purchase of Flock cameras, two of which will be set up and used by police on Highway 17 in Royston.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says a Gainesville man, just released on bond after an arrest on child porn charges, has been rearrested: there are dozens of new counts in the case of Paul Kizito, who has been booked into the Hall County jail.
