Area briefs: Library, golf course reopen after Tuesday closures

The Clarke County School District, now four weeks away from the start of a new school year in Athens, hangs out a Help Wanted sign, looking for classroom and special education teachers for Coile Middle School. Those interested can apply online through the School District’s Career Center. There is a link on the Clarke County School District website.

The University of Georgia says its golf course reopens today: it was closed for Tuesday maintenance work. UGA says the driving range at the course on Riverbend Road in Athens is closed for a second day of work.

The Athens-Clarke County Library is expected to reopen on a normal schedule this morning: the Library on Baxter Street closed a noon Tuesday after its air-conditioning stopped working.

There is a chance to donate badly needed blood today at UGA: an American Red Cross blood drive is set for 11 til 4 at the University Health Center. That is on Carlton Street in Athens.

Oconee County Commissioners have set August 23 as the date for the next in its series of quarterly town hall meetings: it will take place at the Civic Center in Watkinsville.

The Industrial Building Authority in Franklin County has signed off on the purchase of almost 100 acres off Highway 17 in Lavonia. The property will be the site of a new industrial park.

Work that began Tuesday continues in Cornelia: a railroad crossing in on South Main Street in downtown Cornelia is closed while Norfolk Southern makes repairs. It is work that is expected to continue for the rest of the week. There is a detour in place.
