Area briefs include Commission meetings in Madison, Jackson counties

Madison County Commissioners meet this evening in Danielsville: it’s a 6 o’clock session at the Madison County Government Complex. Their Jackson County Commission counterparts meet this afternoon, a 1 o’clock planning meeting at the Jackson County Ag Center in Jefferson.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office says there is an arson investigation in Jackson County: the blaze burned an abandoned home on Highway 129 in Jefferson. There is a reward of up to $10 thousand for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Police in Gainesville are investigating a weekend shooting: one man was wounded in gunfire at an apartment complex in Gainesville. He was hospitalized, at last report in stable condition, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. There was no word from police on a suspect in the shooting.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting: one man was killed at a home in north Hall. Timothy Loggins was 44 years old.

The University of North Georgia says its campus in Cumming will offer four bachelor’s degree options for students taking fall semester classes: UNG says the Forsyth County campus will teach bachelor’s courses in computer science, elementary and special education, international affairs, and management.
