Area briefs include candidate qualifying in Elberton, Commission session in Winder

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Airport Authority: it is a 3 o’clock session in the Flight Center at Athens-Ben Epps Airport.

The candidate qualifying that began Monday continues today in Elbert County, with political hopefuls signing up for municipal elections that will be held on November 7: there is a mayor’s race in Bowman, and City Council seats that are up for grabs in Bowman and Elberton. Three days of candidate qualifying end tomorrow.

This evening’s Barrow County Commission meeting is underway at 6 o’clock at the Historic Courthouse in Winder.

A Franklin County man is arrested on grand larceny charges in Oconee County South Carolina. 26 year-old Zachary Butler is accused of stealing a $25 hundred engagement ring from a home in which he was working as a contractor.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a deadly hit-and-run wreck in Habersham County. A man pushing a bicycle on Georgia Highway 17 was struck and killed. He’s now identified as Robert Reeves, from Clarkesville. State Troopers were, at last report, searching for the driver of the vehicle that hit him.
