Area briefs: Food For Fines at UGA, holiday concert at Hodgson Hall

It’s a move arranged by the University of Georgia’s Student Government Association: UGA is collecting parking fines in the form of donations of canned foods. The University’s Transportation and Parking Services says ten cans of food can be exchanged for the waiver of $50 in parking fines in an event scheduled for December 7 at the University of Georgia’s Legion Field.

There is music this evening in Athens: the University of Georgia’s annual Holiday Concert is underway at 7:30 in UGA’s Hodgson Concert Hall.

His lawyer wants a bond reduction for a Carnesville man facing arson charges in Franklin County: 53 year-old James Stamps is charged with setting the fire that burned a home this past May. Stamps was arrested in June and is still in the Franklin County jail.

A man from White County is charged in a fatal crash in Hall County: 42 year-old William Olmstead is from Cleveland. He’s facing a vehicular homicide charge after the May accident that claimed the life of a man in Flowery Branch. 36 year-old Christopher Powell. Powell died after his moped was struck by Olmstead’s vehicle.
