Area briefs: end of early voting in Athens, theft arrest in Braselton

Today is the last day for early voting in elections that will be decided next Tuesday: Athens-Clarke County voters are choosing Athens-Clarke County Commissioners and Clarke County School Board members; there are also races for Sheriff, Coroner, and Tax Commissioner.

A Clarke County Superior Court judge has denied bond in the case of Reveckeyo Hill. The 38 year-old Hill, a pastor and car dealer, is in the Athens-Clarke County jail, facing a long list of fraud charges. He was arrested last month on counts that included forgery and theft by deception.

The School Board in Commerce schedules public hearings on a new budget: they’re set for June 3 and 10. The Board is looking at a $24.8 million spending plan for Commerce city schools.

The City Council in Braselton is considering cameras: the Council is looking at the purchase of up to 20 FLOCK security cameras for Braselton.

A suspect from Gwinnett County is charged with stealing a landscaping truck in Jackson County. Gwinnett Police say Timothy Burke was arrested while driving the truck that was reported stolen by a landscaper in Braselton.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is monitoring a sewage spill in Hall County, with an estimated six thousand gallons of raw sewage flowing into Lake Lanier in Gainesville earlier this week.
