Area briefs: early voting continues, Hall Chamber CEO retires

University of Georgia students put the wraps on spring semester classes Monday. Today is Reading Day at UGA, the traditional day of study before tomorrow’s start of spring finals.

The early voting that began Monday continues today at the Elections Office on Washington Street in downtown Athens. Seats on the Athens-Clarke County Commission and the Clarke County School Board are among those that will be decided in elections that come to a close on May 21. Three weeks of advance voting ends on May 18.

Tonight’s Oconee County Commission meeting is set for 6 o’clock at the County Administrative Building on Macon Highway in Watkinsville.

He has served as an assistant superintendent in Oconee County Schools: Dr. Dallas LeDuff has been named as the sole finalist to be the next School Superintendent in Barrow County.

A 46 year-old Elberton man is killed in a vehicle vs pedestrian accident: the Georgia State Patrol says it happened on Highway 17 in Elbert County. State Trooper say there were there were minor injuries for the driver of the vehicle that hit Sammy Smith. They say the driver will not face charges in the accident.

Kit Dunlap says she is stepping down after more than a quarter century as president and CEO of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce in Gainesville.

We have this morning the name of the Hall County man killed in a motorcycle crash in Forsyth County: Daniel Ericksen was 38 years old, from Gainesville.
