Area briefs: worker killed in accident ID’d, Commission meeting postponed

We have this morning the name of the construction worker who was killed in last Friday’s accident at UGA: Trevor Wilkie was 36 years old, from Athens. Wilkie was working on steam lines between the University of Georgia’s Miller Learning Center and Tate Student Center when he was hit by a piece of machinery. The accident investigation is ongoing.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission. It’s a 4 o’clock session at Memorial Park.

Today is an early release day for students at Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals high schools: they’re out of class at 12:45 this afternoon. This is the final week of the school year for students and teachers in the Clarke County School District.

Oconee County teachers put the wraps on two days of post planning today, beginning the summer break that began for Oconee County students after last Friday’s last day of the school year in and around Watkinsville.

Because of today’s election day, tonight’s scheduled Athens-Clarke County Commission meeting has been pushed back to Wednesday. Oconee County Commissioners are meeting at 6 at the Administrative Building on Macon Highway.

They are hanging out a Help Wanted sign in Royston, looking to hire new officers for the Royston Police Department.

The Atlanta Falcons say construction at the team’s facility in Hall County will mean that this summer’s practice sessions in Flowery Branch will not be open to the public.
