Area briefs: Congressman looks for interns, TAD committee looks at North Ave

10th District Congressman Mike Collins, the Republican who represents Athens in the US House, is accepting applications for next year’s Spring Internship Program. Interns will work in Collins’ office in Washington and in district offices in northeast Georgia.

There is a City Hall session for the committee that is looking at plans for a Tax Allocation District for Athens’ North Avenue Corridor. It gets underway at 2:30 this afternoon.

There is a scam alert in Jefferson, where Police Chief Joe Wirthman says a flashing speed sign on Athens Street in Jefferson is being used by scammers who are sending out bogus speeding tickets.

The Madison County Planning and Zoning Commission has postponed what had been scheduled as a public hearing on a controversial plan for a golf course and residential development proposed for Hull.
