Area briefs: Athens marathon registration underway, Ag Commission visits UGA

Online registration is underway for what will be an Athens Marathon: the Classic City Marathon, 26.2 miles through the streets and neighborhoods of Athens, is scheduled for January 28. The registration website is Classic City Marathon dot com.

We are on the eve of the Georgia Bulldogs final SEC game of the season, a 3:30 Saturday kick in Knoxville vs the Tennessee Volunteers. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Police in Gwinnett County say there has been a third arrest in last year’s shooting death of Jefferson High School football player Elijah Dewitt. The 17 year-old was gunned down in the parking lot of a restaurant in Lawrenceville in October of 2022. 19 year-old Kpadeh Jones, along with two other suspects arrested shortly after the shooting, is facing a murder charge.

A Hall County woman is facing child molestation allegations involving a 7 year-old girl in Gainesville. Patricia Argueta was booked into the Hall County jail. Police in Gainesville say their investigation is ongoing.
