Area briefs: area students set for spring break, police probe school threats

Today is the last day of class for students in schools in Oconee and Clarke counties: they’re out on spring break next week.

There is a nomination for an author in Madison County: Teri Drake-Floyd, who serves on the Board of Trustees for the Madison County Library, is up for Georgia Author of the Year honors for her 2023 novel So Long Bobby.

The Sheriff’s Office in Toccoa is investigating threatening phone calls made to Stephens County Middle School. Investigators say the calls appear to have been a series of hoaxes.

Indictments handed up by a grand jury in Franklin County charge five people with eight counts of financial card transaction fraud. They’re accused of using personal information from a stolen credit card and with appropriating that victim’s South Carolina driver’s license number.

We are learning more about the arrest of Danny White, the 66 year-old Gainesville man booked into the Hall County jail on child porn charges: investigators in the Gainesville Police Department say they were tipped off when he took his phone to a Best Buy store to get repairs. They say that’s when dozens of child porn images were found.
