Area briefs: ACCA survey, UGA Engagement Fair, Franklin Co school calendar

The Athens Area Community Council on Aging is conducting an online survey, looking for feedback on programs and services offered by the Council. Director Eve Anthony says the survey will be on the Council website through the middle of February.

Another spring semester Engagement Fair is on tap for tonight at the Tate Center: University of Georgia Student Affairs says more than two hundred student organizations will be represented in the event that gets underway at 7 o’clock.

A Madison County man will serve a two-year term on the Broad River Soil and Water Conservation District: the appointment goes to Bobby Fleming of Hull.

A man from Baldwin is arrested and charged in a December robbery in Homer: the Banks County Sheriff’s Office says 38 year-old Jarrid Carter is accused of kicking in the glass front door of a convenience store and stealing from the cash register in a robbery that happened on Christmas Eve.

The Franklin County School Board, meeting in Carnesville, signs off on a new school year calendar: first day of class for the 2024-25 school year in Franklin County will be August 2.

There is a top honor for a teacher in Gainesville: Gainesville High School Spanish teacher Ana Diaz has been named Georgia’s Foreign Language Teacher of the Year. The award comes from the Foreign Language Association.

The trial continues in Hall County Superior Court in Gainesville, where Guadalupe Cuarenta is facing child molestation allegations that date back to 2012.

Hall County is looking to spend more than $2 million on renovations to the Hall County courthouse in Gainesville.
