Area briefs: A-CC, Oconee Co Commissioners meet, police probe homicides

Athens-Clarke County Police were, at last report, still searching for suspects in the weekend shooting of 72 year-old Eugene Scott, who was found dead in a home on Old Monroe Road in Athens. There is, so far, no word on a motive for the shooting that has neighbors on edge.

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners meet this evening, a special called session set for 6 o’clock at City Hall. Plans for the renovation of the Atlanta Highway property that is home to the Georgia Square Mall are on the agenda.

This evening’s Oconee County Commission meeting is set for 6 o’clock at the new Oconee County Administrative Building on Macon Highway in Watkinsville.

There is interim leadership for the fire department in Hall County: Hall County Fire Rescue Chief Chris Armstrong says his resignation is effective today while Deputy Chief Tim Woodward stepped down Monday. There was no immediate word on a reason for the resignations that were announced by Hall County Administrator Zach Propes.

Gwinnett County Police were, at last report, searching for a shooter who killed a man at an apartment complex in Norcross. Police say residents at the Gwinnett Pointe Apartments heard multiple shots fired. They says the man who was shot made it into a breezeway and banged on a door before he collapsed and died.
