Athens-Clarke County Commissioners, their Tuesday evening session rescheduled because of election day, will meet this evening, 6 o’clock in their temporary meeting space at Clarke County School District offices on Prince Avenue. They’ll hold a budget hearing, and Commissioners will talk more about site selection for a new Fire Station Five, slated for construction somewhere on Athens’ east side.
More talk about one of Athens’ busiest thoroughfares is on tap for today, with a 3 o’clock meeting of the Prince Avenue corridor improvements user group.
It’ll be July 4 in June: Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services sets the date for the Star Spangled Classic in Southeast Clarke Park. Activities will get underway at 6 o’clock on June 29, with fireworks set to go off at around 9:30 that night.
There is a top honor for a school principal in Jackson County: East Jackson High School principal Matt Stratemeyer has been named the Georgia Association of School Councils’ Administrator of the Year.
Police are investigating vandalism in Gainesville, where a memorial to Israeli hostages held by Hamas has again been spraypainted. It’s happened multiple times at the site in downtown Gainesville. The memorial went up in January after the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.
