Area briefs: 100 days til graduation at UGA, Madison Co names School Supt

The University of Georgia’s Student Alumni Council is organizing today’s 100 Days Until Graduation Events. The University is counting down days until the May 9 spring semester graduation exercises.

The Madison County School Board has settled on a successor to retiring School Superintendent Michael Williams. The Board, meeting this week in Danielsville, named Assistant Superintendent Jody Goodroe as its sole finalist. Dr. Goodroe’s appointment as Superintendent is expected at the School Board’s next meeting next month in Madison County.

State health officials, who reported big spikes in flu and COVID cases in Athens and northeast Georgia during the holidays, say the case counts are now down.

There is a heads-up for drivers on Highway 316 in Barrow County: the Georgia DOT says traffic pacing will impact drivers eastbound on 316 near its intersection with Highway 11.

A 26 year-old Hartwell man was booked into the Hart County jail: William Scruggs was arrested after a Monday manhunt that began with reports of family violence. He is facing charges that include terroristic threats and criminal damage to property.
