Ryan Hammock becomes the second announced candidate in the race to replace outgoing Oconee County School Board member Wayne Bagley, who says he will not be running for reelection. Hammock, a banker in Oconee County, joins realtor Julie Mauck, who kicked off her campaign for the School Board seat last week.

From Ryan Haddock…

My name is Ryan Hammock and I am announcing my candidacy for Board of Education Post 3. I intend to qualify as a Republican for the election later this year.

My wife, three sons, and I have lived in Oconee County for 8 years. Our oldest son attends Dove Creek Elementary School. We are active parents and strong supporters of the school and system. We are pleased with the quality of education provided Oconee County students.

This community has been good to me and I want to give back. I began thinking of Board of Education service last year. We are a growing community and school system. I believe I can make a contribution to the community as a board member and parent. Let me introduce myself to you.

I have been a banker for the past 18 years. In addition to working in Oconee County as a banker, I have the experience of being a fourth-generation farmer in Hall County. I understand the need for proper fiscal management and the oversight required for long term sustainability and success.

I serve in leadership advisory roles for local non-profits, currently as Treasurer for the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation and Treasurer for The United Way of Northeast Georgia. As in non-profit work, effectively managing resources is just one of many important ways the school board supports local educators and citizens.

I was educated in public schools, and my mother is a long-time public school teacher, so I’ve seen how critical it is to encourage all parents to get involved with their child’s education. It takes all of us working together with the excellent educators we’re blessed to have in Oconee County to put the next generation in the best position for success.
