ACCPD probes two shootings that left three wounded

Athens-Clarke County Police say injuries to a 13 year-old who was shot on Chalfont Drive on Athens’ west side are not believed to be life-threatening. Police arrested 18-year old Tonio Jackson at a nearby park following a brief foot chase. The shooting happened before the start of the school day Monday. The victim is said to be a student in the Clarke County School District.

Athens-Clarke County Police are reporting two arrests in the aftermath of a shooting that happened last month in downtown Athens. Police in Jefferson arrested 24 year-old Ismael Marquez of Athens; 20 year-old Israel Tapia of Athens is also charged in the West Clayton Street gunfire that left two victims wounded.

ACCPD Arrests Two in West Clayton Street Shooting On November 3, 2023, the Jefferson Police Department and ACCPD Safe Streets arrested Ismael Tapia Marquez (24 YOA, Athens) for the shooting that occurred on West Clayton Street on October 29th. Marquez is charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony.

Another suspect, Israel Tapia (20 YOA, Athens), was arrested on November 4, 2023, on charges of Battery, Simple Battery, and False Statements. Several subjects involved in this fight are still outstanding. Video footage of the incident shows several bystanders filming the fight and subsequent shooting.
