Athens-Clarke County Police arrest an Athens teenager on weapons charges. Police say 18 year-old Demetrius Collins was caught with five firearms, some of which had been reported stolen. He and 22 year-old Marcus Dowdy, also of Athens, were arrested. Dowdy faces drug and weapons charges. Police say Collins was out on bond at the time of his arrest, having been charged in a carjacking that happened two years ago.

On November 22, 2023, at approximately 1:09 PM, ACCPD conducted an operation to arrest Demetrius Collins (18 YOA, Athens). Collins was arrested outside a residence in the 100 block of Parkview Homes. Collins was out on bond for several violent offenses, including a carjacking that occurred in 2021. Also arrested in the operation was Marcus Dowdy (22 YOA, Athens), who was with Collins at the time of the operation.
A search of the suspects and residence located five firearms – four handguns (one reported stolen and one modified for machine gun fire) and a stolen AR-15 rifle. In addition to the felony warrants, Collins was charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property and Obstruction. Dowdy was arrested for Possession of a Machine Gun, Tampering with Evidence, and Possession of Marijuana, Less than an Ounce.
