Deborah Lonon is moving on: the Athens-Clarke County government’s Assistant County Manager says she will resign effective November 27, taking a job as Commissioner of Grants Management with the City of Atlanta.

“My life’s purpose is to serve and to help those who experience the most difficulty with accessing opportunities,” says Lonon. “This position will allow me to help connect Atlanta’s most needful residents with resources and strengthen the City of Atlanta’s access to much needed grants and funding.”

“Consistent with her interaction with Athenians her entire adult life, Deborah has had an influential and lasting impact on those with whom she has interacted during her time at ACCGov as Assistant Manager, including myself,” said Manager Blaine Williams. “This is a great loss for all of us, but Mayor Bottoms has keenly chosen a gifted and tenacious human being to guide the City of Atlanta’s grant management efforts for the betterment of all Atlantans, particularly their most vulnerable.”

Lonon originally joined ACCGov as an Assistant Attorney in April 2016. Williams appointed her as Director of the Housing and Community Development Department in December 2016 before selecting her as an Assistant Manager in April 2019.

“I have truly loved working as a part of the ACCGov team and, in particular, with Manager Williams and the Manager’s Office, the Management Team, and the ACCGov family,” says Lonon. “Although I will no longer be a part of ACCGov, I look forward to continuing to being involved in other ways with the future of the Athens community.”

A nationwide search for the Assistant Manager position vacated by Lonon will begin in early 2021. The Manager’s Office administration currently consists of Manager Blaine Williams and Assistant Manager Josh Edwards.
