Georgia Congressman Buddy Carter says he’s in wait-and-see mode when it comes to a campaign for US Senate: the Savannah Republican, who has been considering a run for the seat held by Democrat Raphael Warnock, says he will enter the race if Herschel Walker sits it out. Former President Trump has preemptively endorsed the former Bulldog football legend.
“The stars are kinda telling me that maybe they’re lining up for Herschel Walker,” says Congressman Carter. “And if that’s the case then we’re certainly gonna be behind Herschel....we’ve gotta have somebody who can fight and somebody who can win.”
Carter says he expects Walker to enter the race to unseat Warnock, a contest that already includes state Ag Commissioner Gary Black and Republicans Kelvin King and Latham Sadler. “If Herschel’s gonna run, I’m gonna be with him. If he’s not, then I’m running,” Carter told WGAU in a Tuesday interview.
Walker, who won the 1982 Heisman Trophy while playing at UGA, has been hinting at a Senate run for several weeks but has yet to make a definitive announcement.
