Area briefs include A-CC Commission, Oconee Co BOE meetings today, tonight

Students at the University of Georgia and in the Clarke County School District are returning to classrooms this morning: most schools around the region were closed for Monday’s observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners meet for a 6 o’clock agenda setting session at City Hall. Just before that meeting is a 5:30 special called session, also at Athens City Hall.

There is a 7 o’clock meeting of the Oconee County Planning Commission. Tonight’s session takes place at the Administrative Building on Macon Highway in Watkinsville.

The Oconee County School Board meets in a special session that gets underway at 9 o’clock this morning at the Georgia Club in Statham.

Two men from Macon will get prison time after their convictions in Jackson County: 22 year-old Jaiquan Chase and 23 year-old Dailan Alston were found guilty for last year’s armed robbery and shooting in Commerce. A 68 year-old man and his 62 year-old wife were robbed at gunpoint; the man was shot and wounded in the holdup that happened last July.

A man from Royston is killed in a holiday weekend crash in Franklin County: the Georgia State Patrol says 33 year-old Aaron Marsten died in a single-vehicle wreck on Highway 51. State Troopers say their accident investigation is ongoing.
