Oconee County Schools recently received the Georgia School Boards Association’s Leading Edge Award for Special Education On-Campus and Community-Based Vocational Training. Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Suzanne Korngold accepted on behalf of OCS at the GSBA/GSSA Conference in Atlanta.
The GSBA Leading Edge Award highlights school districts that are leading the way in ensuring students are competitive in an ever-changing global market. This unique achievement recognizes innovative design and implementation of projects and programs by local governance teams that are having a significant positive impact on student achievement and engagement.
Oconee County is committed to assisting all students transition from high school to independence, employment, and/or post secondary education. Job opportunities are offered in technology, transportation, maintenance, custodial, cafeteria, media center, paraprofessional, and office management. Oconee County provides students real-world and hands-on job skills as well as support and guidance. Throughout the year, Leading Edge Award recipients may be asked to present on their recognized program at GSBA trainings and events.
The OCS entry fell in the Teaching & Learning category. The applicants selected one of the nine components of the Georgia Vision for Public Education that aligns to their innovative practice: Continuous Improvement; Communication; Early Learning & Student Success; Teaching & Learning; Teaching & Learning Resources; Human & Organizational Capital; Governance, Leadership & Accountability; Culture, Climate & Organizational Efficacy; and Financial Resources.
