The Atlanta Braves could be without two long-time Braves, Julio Teheran and Brian McCann, next season. The Braves have had either McCann or Teheran on their roster every season, since McCann’s debut in 2005.
The Braves are faced with a tough decision to make this offseason with Teheran, deciding whether or not they pick up the $12 million team option for 2020 or let him test out the free agent market. Meanwhile, after the Braves heart-breaking loss in Game 5 of the NLDS, McCann announced to the media that he was retiring, putting an end to his historic career.
Brian McCann’s MLB career
McCann played in 1,755 regular season games and 39 playoff games, throughout his career. He spent 10 seasons with the Braves, three with the New York Yankees and two with the Houston Astros.
McCann was drafted by the Braves in the second round of the 2002 MLB Draft, out of Duluth High School. Three years later, he would make his MLB debut with the Braves at the age of 21. 15 seasons later, McCann has established himself as one of the best catchers in MLB history.
