Matt Johnson, WSB-TV
Gwinnett County Bureau Chief
Matt Johnson joined Channel 2 Action News in June 2015 as a general assignment reporter. He is now the Gwinnett County Bureau Chief.
Southern California is where Matt was born and raised, but there’s nothing like southern hospitality and he is thankful to call Georgia his new home.
He comes from KFMB in San Diego, California where he was part of a #1-rated news team that notably delivered continuing coverage on a series wildfires in May 2014 for three straight days. Before San Diego, he spent two years in Little Rock, Arkansas where he specialized in reporting on city blight and neglected neighborhoods.
His reporting career began in Killeen, Texas where he covered the military trial for the Fort Hood shooter and he broke the story about a controversial buyout of the city manager which lead to voters recalling the entire city council.
Matt is a graduate of California State University, Northridge and won a regional Edward R. Murrow award for a radio report before receiving his journalism degree in 2010.
He loves discovering new music, performing poetry, and exploring his new city. He’s always admired the Atlanta area and is thrilled to be back reporting in the south.
